Vehicle and Props Design - Fundamentals of Vehicle Design
31/08/2023 - 19/10/2023 / Week 1 - Week 8
After deconstructing one, I thought it's done already but turns out I need to deconstruct a total of 15 vehicle. So I did deconstruct more in the end as I follow the instruction (5 land, 5 water, 5 air). We also need to provide some references so that Mr. Kanaan know which vehicle we deconstruct.
Mr. Kanaan told me that I could exaggerate more. I thought of making land vehicles since it's easier that way so I tried merging Godzilla into a Jeep design.

Exercises
In this exercise, we are to practice and showcase thorough understanding of creating vehicle and props design via series of continuous task given. We will be exercising fundamentals as listed below:
- Deconstructing and constructing vehicles from references (5 x3 types = 15 thumbnail sketches)
- Form and Function
- Perspective
- Line Weight and Texturing
- Applying Colors
i) Deconstructing and constructing vehicles
In this study, we are to study about the base of land, water, and air vehicles that we see in our daily life. It can be a car, a truck, a cruise, a jet, and etc. My first attempt in deconstructing is to deconstruct MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam in it's waveride mode as I thought I could only deconstruct one vehicle for this exercise.

ii) Form and Function
In this exercise, we are to play and exaggerate some vehicles part and make it functional. Basically we make a vehicle based on something and that we need to make it look functional in the real world. For example, I made this vehicle as I add some animal aspect on it.Fig 2.1 - 2.3 Merging animal with vehicles exercise (Week 3, 14/09/2023)

I also did a vehicle based on sea life creature such as the hammerhead shark, crab, and sperm whale.

Mr. Kanaan told me that I could go further in Fig 2.4. He also told me of the use of gatling guns and tank-like feature into the vehicle.

iii) Perspective
In this exercise, we are to practice on our perspective skills. First of all, I hate this exercise since I struggled so much in doing perspective. Since this exercise is meant to give me some practice, so I gave it a try. I used the vehicle "tri-cycle cab" as the subject as I practice my perspective skill.

iv) Line Weight and Texturing
This exercise is actually a two part exercise but I merged it into one since I have not much time. We are to practice on controlling our pressure in drawing the line so that it could make our drawing look more dynamic and lively and as for texturing is to practice on our skill on differentiating parts.
Fig 4.1 Line weight and Texturing (Week 8, 18/10/2023)
In this attempt, I tried to make it look like a wood texture. As for the lines I tried to follow that wood texture line where some are usually wavey while some are blocky.
v) Applying Colors
In this exercise, we are to practice our skill in choosing colors for our subject. In this case, I used my project 1 vehicle as the subject since I am also making project 1 in this timeframe.

REFLECTION
The experience in this exercise is the same as Anatomy module. There is no specific direction at first so I felt lost. Eventually, I came to my senses at the middle of the week timeframe as I immediately catch up with everything. Overall, the exercises meant a lot to me as I can proceed to the projects and do it without problems (except in Final Project).
