LECTURES
Week 4 (20/09/2022)
This is the final week for our exercises on the 5 design principle. Dr. Jinchi gave feedbacks to all of the students. We also got our first project for this semester and the deadline is Week 7 and Dr. Jinchi gave some briefing on how to do it. In this week I am done with all 5 principles.
Week 3 (13/09/2022)
This week is the same as before, Dr. Jinchi are giving feedbacks to all of the students design work. In this week I have finalized Unity and Harmony and done with Word and Image.
Week 2 (06/09/2022)
Lecture's in an online class, basically Dr. Jinchi are giving feedbacks to all of the students design work. We get some good feedback and some not that bad feedback. In this week I have finalized the Contrast and Emphasis, also done with Movement and Unity and Harmony work.
Week 1 (30/08/2022)
Lecture's in an online class, just briefing about exercises and how to use Microsoft Teams. There's also some explanation on how to do the exercises given. This exercise deadline is until week 4. In this week I have done with the Contrast and Emphasis work.

Task 1: Exercises - Design Principles
(Week 1-Week 4)
I chose 5 principles from the 8 that is given which is: Contrast, Emphasis, Movement, Unity and Harmony, and
1. Contrast
Recap: Contrast occurs when two elements on a page are different. Like it could be different colors between the text and the background color. It could be a difference between a large graphic and a small graphic or it could be a rough texture combined with a smooth texture. Contrast also attracts our eyes.
For this principle, I'm taking Metagross from Pokemon as a reference. The reason I choose Metagross is that when I'm trying to make this assignment, I'm playing Pokemon GO at the same time.

At first, I'm trying to think on how should I make the design. In the end, I'm just going to make it like a comparison mirror of it's original color with the contrast color. So I began to sketch it in a good way, and here is the process.

Fig 1.5 Result
At the result, I decided to put some background and also some text too make it look better personally. It took me like 2 hours for making it and an hour for brainstorm some ideas. After sharing this to Dr. Jinchi, she said that I could just use 1 of the Metagross specifically the left side one. She also said that perhaps I do not need to use the background so I decided to remove it since personally I think it's really disturbing the Metagross itself. The text is already good to go, so in the end the final result is surprisingly good.

2. Emphasis
Recap: Emphasis is defined as an area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point. Focal point refers to an area in the composition that has the most significance, an area that the artist wants to draw attention to as the most important part of it.
In this task, I used one of my original character as a subject. Same thing as before, I begin to brainstorm some ideas and pick which idea is good for me. I began to sketch and the result is pretty good. I use a music cover art name Android Girl featuring Hatsune Miku, this cover was drawn by Hachisan.

Fig 2.2 Sketches
In this sketch, I tried to make like a contrast mirror. The difference with the previous work is that in this design I only focuses on 1 side of the character. I picked the right side because I want the main attraction is the monster instead of the human.Fig 2.3 Line art
Fig 2.4 Base color
Fig 2.5 Result
I decided to put some glow in the left side because I feel like it. So I can conclude the main attraction of this design is the red glow and the monster at the right side. After showing this to Dr. Jinchi, she told me that perhaps the background color should be a little bit lighter. I agree with it since personally I think it's too dark. She also gave me a suggestion that for the person side I can do a little shading and some highlights. I also need to adjust the glow at the person side so that it doesn't attract people to see the person side because if that happens, then the emphasis on the beast side would be useless. In the end, the highlights personally I think it's really effective to enhance the work.Fig 2.6 Final Result
3. Movement
Recap: Movement is one of the principles of design. Artist can create the path our eyes will travel as we look at art. It shows action and creates feeling of motion within a composition.
I used this moment from Naruto Shippuden as the visual reference since it has that waves movement in the background. So I tried my best and not gonna lie the result is very cool.

Fig 3.6 Effects to enhance the result
Overall, I realized that when I finished this work the movement of the fire can't be easily seen in the background because the color blends with the background. Move that aside, I really enjoy the process of making this work. Dr. Jinchi said that the design work for this principle is perfect for displaying the movement principle. I'm glad that this work didn't get any bad feedback and Dr. Jinchi is pleased to look at it.
Recap: Harmony is the sense that all of the elements of your design fit together whereas unity refers to the repitition of particular elements throughout the design.
In this principle I decided to do something simple unlike the earlier 3 work. I drew multiple of eyes then put them together in a hexagon shape. As for this idea, I got inspired by this picture and took it as the reference.

Fig 4.2 Sketch
Fig 4.3 Line art
Fig 4.4 Base color
For the result I decided to put some details, lighting, shading, and background as usual to make the work better.Fig 4.5 Result
Dr. Jinchi said that perhaps the background can be remove. Iff I do want to give a background for this work, Dr. Jinchi suggest that the background could be slightly attractive and perhaps make the direction of the background as parallel as the eyes.Fig 4.6 Final result
Dr. Jinchi said that the final result is better than before since there is no distraction. She also told me that I could post some experimentation on my work on the blog.
5. Word and Image
Recap: Imagery is a vital part of a design. It is really important to use suitable and relevant images when you are designing a work. Suitable typeface and strategic positioning of the type will result in visual hierarchy and balance in a work of design.
Well since this is the last principle I chose, at first I was confused on which to pick; either word and image or symbol. So I tried to make both in 1 work but I tried to make the symbol less attractive since I'm focusing on the word and image. I use Saber Alter from Fate Grand Order as my visual reference.

Fig 5.4 Base color
In the end, I like the result. The cost for this result is 3 crashes in my phone since I accidentally made the size of the canvas in 3K quality. For the typography, I made it as simple as possible because the simpler the better. I don't want to distort the text a bit so that it can still be readable. After showing it to Dr. Jinchi, she suggest me to make the carving on the throne more noticable since it looks like the work is not finished. The banner is good but if possible it should be bigger/longer. Overall, she only told me to change the text bigger, move the test a little bit and for the 'QUEEN' part I should try to emphasize it. Not gonna lie, the emphasis on the 'QUEEN' is really effective and I like it.
FEEDBACK
Week 4 (20/09/2022)
For unity and harmony it looks better than before. I should try to post more experimentation of my work on the blog. Word and Image is good but Dr. Jinchi suggest me to make the carving on the throne more noticable because it seems like the work is unfinished. I should make the font bigger, Dr. Jinchi also suggest me to emphasize the word 'QUEEN' to make it effective.
Week 3 (13/09/2022)
Movement is perfect. For the unity and harmony if possible don't give any background. If you wanted to put background, Dr. Jinchi suggest that make the background slightly attractive and make it the same direction with the eyes. For the previous work, contrast is good already and emphasis looks better than before.
Week 2 (06/09/2022)
For the contrast work, there are too much things happening. Dr. Jinchi suggest to only use 1 of the object and perhaps don't make the background to attractive. As for the emphasis, it's pretty good but the lack of shading at the left side makes its color look flat and remove the glow part of the left side. Dr. Jinchi also suggest to use some light grey colour instead of dark grey.
REFLECTION
It's been a fun week, I learnt much about the principles of design. I suffer nothing from this exercises, instead I really enjoy it since it boost my productivity from art block. Exploring for idea is fun because when you browse the idea in internet (for me I browse it in Pinterest) you just got brainstormed by loads of ideas.
