Project 2 - Production

In this project, we are to make the interior part of the vehicle we made in Project 1 while also making the props.  In this project, we need to showcase as following in our development progress:
  • Thumbails
  • Value Studies
  • Color Studies
  • Textures

i) Interior - Cockpit Area

I have decided to choose the cockpit area of the tank that I made in Project 1. Just in case if you don't know, the cockpit is basically the head that is attached to the tank.

First, I did some rough sketches on how the interior will look like as I also look at visual references. Some references are generated from AI as Pinterest doesn't show me the reference that I wanted.

Mr. Kanaan told me that I could look for more references. I did while also adding some colors and refining the sketch into lineart.

Fig 1.7 Interior colorized (Week 12, 16/11/2023)

Mr. Kanaan told me that I could refine the interior more by giving some more highlights and depth. He also suggested me to give some overlapping areas and adjust the color of the interiors.

Fig 1.8 Refined Interior (Week 13, 23/11/2023)

When I showed this to him, he said that it looks better than before because I added the screen effect at the panel screen. The color is still problematic but he told me that I could also apply some texture to the interiors. I used some texture available online as I then overlay it while also adjust the texture so that it has the same direction as the plane.

ii) Props Design

In this section, we need to make a minimum of 5 props for our vehicle. In this case, I picked some props that is available at my vehicle while also adding some minor parts such as accessories.

Fig 2.1 Initial Props (Week 11, 10/11/2023)

Mr. Kanaan told me that it looks plain and it needs more refinement. He also told me that the arrangement looks unfinished so I redo the layout of it based on their size while also try to refine the props more.

Fig 2.2 Colored Props (Week 12, 16/11/2023)

When I showed this, Mr. Kanaan told me that I could make the helmet more bigger while also lower the the size of the grenade and the keychain. He also told me that the missile looks plain and it needs more exaggeration in it.

Fig 2.3 Refined props (Week 13, 24/11/2023)

Mr. Kanaan told me that the missile now looks better. Though the helmet and shield needs more detail in it. Which I did it after week 4 because it is the last module that I need to complete and thanks to Mr. Kanaan for extending the deadline.

Fig 2.5 Final Props with Decals and Parts Seperation (Week 15, 04/12/2023)

I went all out in the final props design as I used Gunpla decals as reference. The shield's design is inspired from the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed series while the head I used the MS-06S Zaku II as reference.

  • Resize some of the props
Week 13 (23/11/2023)
  • Adjust the saturation of the interior, give some textures.
  • Give details and overlapping effect at the props
Week 14 (30/11/2023)
  • Add some volumes

  • Refine the interior further (like adding some vents)

REFLECTION

Although the deadline is extended, I still feel dissapointed to myself as I can't submit it within the ideal timeframe. Still, I am grateful for Mr. Kanaan for extending the deadline because that really helps me a lot in refining and finalizing my props design. Overall, if I had a good time management in doing this project I would have finished it earlier.
