Project 2 - Interior Sets & Props

3D Block Out Model

In this project, we are to make the interior part of the structure we made in Project 1 while also making the props and assets. I made 3 rooms as an option so that I can show it to Mr. Kanaan and asked him which room I should better develop.

From the sketches I made, me and Mr. Kanaan decided that I should continue to develop the sketch 'Boss Arena Phase 2' as it has more interesting overview and level design. With that in mind, I go to Blender and do the blockout so that it could help me in further progress when I draw the illustration of the interior.

I showed this blockout to Mr. Kanaan. He told me that some of the composition shot can be usable for illustration purposes. Personally I felt this blockout is somewhat plain and so I continue to develop the blockout.

Assets Exploration

I did some assets exploration on which assets that I should use for my illustration later. I asked Mr. Kanaan for his opinion and feedback and he told me that I can continue with:
  • Pillar #3
  • Banner #3
  • Egg #2
  • Vases #4
  • Statue #3

For the dragon's egg I kind of combined design #2 and #3. I did that because the egg in #2 is plain and need more design to it.

This is the initial sketch that I made for my interior overview. While I am doing this, Mr. Kanaan did told me to remember to give some mini details like tiles while also give more assets into the illustration.

As I present this to Mr. Kanaan, he told me that I shouldn't play around with texture brush often because for now, the design is lacking. He told me that I should do that later in polishing the work in Final Project.

FEEDBACKS

Week 9 (19/06/2024)

  • Sketch are fine, it's suggested to use the Boss Arena as the interior since it's more interesting and could ease your work for 2 modules (Game Art and Environment Design)

Week 10 (26/06/2024)

  • Blockout is fine, but you can add more things

Week 12 (10/07/2024)

  • Assets are all fine, use pillar #3 while also add other elements from another pillar
  • Banner #3 gives more dragon-like vibe so use that
  • For the egg, combine the hand of #2 and the egg of #3
  • Vase can use whichever you want, it won't matter
  • For the statue, number 3 is better

Week 13 (17/06/2024)

  • For illustration, try your best not to overdo the texture
  • There is a lack of design in tiles and some of the assets like platform.
  • If you want to give mirror effect, use blur 


REFLECTION

My struggle in this project is that I can't stay consistent and the unfortunate timing of me getting sick. Even though I am sick, I still did my best to present my work. Aside of that, I have no other problems except for needing to improve my skills more. 

I realized that I shouldn't overdo something with texture brush, sure they are a good shortcut, but it's nice to have some design that is made by myself. Photobashing helped me abit in some scenario of the illustration like applying textures. In short, I believe I can do better in the next time.
